Symptoms – SIBO

SIBO

While we think of Fibromyalgia as a condition involving painful muscles and joints, the majority of Fibro suffers also have abdominal complaints such as IBS and the less commonly known one Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO).

Our Intestines consist of the small and large and are an important part of the Immune System especially the small one.

Normal bacteria that are part of the Small Intestine help protect you against bacteria and yeast that are ingested.

Sometimes these bacteria can overgrow which leads to damage to the lining of the Intestine and eventually allows this bacteria to enter the blood stream.

This results in problems with the Immune System such as fatigue and body pain. This overgrowth of bacteria also excretes acid which in high amounts causes Neurological and Cognitive Symptoms as well.

The main symptoms of SIBO are the same as IBS but there are other symptoms related too it. They include:

  • Heartburn, Acid Reflux
  • Nausea, Vomiting
  • Vitamin/Mineral Deficiencies
  • Food Sensitivities
  • Headaches
  • Joint pain
  • Fatigue
  • Brain Fog
  • Skin Rashes
  • Respiratory Symptoms such as Asthma
  • Depression/Anxiety

Since SIBO can contribute to pain you need to look at your diet, reducing the bacteria, healing the Intestine and preventing relapse.
