Medication – Pregabalin (Lyrica)

Pregabalin curbs your pain and can help your fatigue and sleep problems. Sold under the brand name Lyrica among others, is an Anxiolytic Medication. Its use in Epilepsy is as an add-on therapy for partial seizures.

What is Pregabalin used to treat?

Pregabalin is an antiepileptic drug also used in the management of chronic pain conditions, including Fibromyalgia. Pain response with Pregabalin is associated with major benefits for symptoms and improving quality of life and function in people with chronic painful conditions.

Common side effects may occur and may not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. If the side effects don’t go away in time, please talk to your doctor about it.

More common side effects:

  • Blurred vision
  • Change in walking and balance
  • Burning, tingling, numbness, or pain in the hands, arms, feet, or legs
  • Clumsiness
  • Confusion
  • Difficulty having a bowel movement
  • Difficulty with speaking
  • Double vision
  • Dry mouth
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Hoarseness
  • Increased appetite
  • Lack of coordination
  • Loss of memory
  • Lower back or side pain
  • Painful or difficult urination
  • Poor insight and judgment
  • Rapid weight gain
  • Shakiness
  • Sleepiness

Less common:

  • Anxiety or Depression
  • Excess air on gas in the stomach or bowels
  • Eye disorder
  • Increase hunger, or loss of appetite
  • Loss of bladder control
  • Loss of strength and energy
  • Nervousness
  • Nightmares
  • Pain
  • Slurred speech
  • Runny nose

Rare side effects:

  • Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  • Bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  • Chills
  • Cough
  • Difficulty with swallowing
  • Dizziness
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Hives, itching, skin rash
  • Joint or muscle pain
  • Puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  • Red, irritated eyes
  • Sore throat
  • Unusual tiredness or weakness
  • Sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips

Incidence not known:

  • Blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  • Irregular, fast, or slow, or shallow breathing
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Nausea
  • Severe constipation
  • Stomach cramps or pain
  • Vomiting
