Massage

Fibromyalgia pain is unlike any other pain as we all know only too well, but surprisingly can be improved with the help of certain types of Massage.

Though treatment will vary from one person to another it can relax your muscles, improve your quality of sleep, and help relieve headaches and when done correctly helps release stress and anxiety.

The following are the ones said to help those with Fibro the most.

SWEDISH MASSAGE:

  • Is designed to increase Oxygen to your muscles, it helps flush out toxins and enhances the flexibility and health as well.
  • It uses long gliding movements which includes stroking the body with the thumb, fingers, and palms. It also uses kneading and tapping vibrations to benefit the body as well.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE:

  • Used to loosen areas of tight tense muscles and tissue. It targets the deep layers of the muscles and tendons to release tension and ease chronic pain. The therapist uses deep strokes with firm pressure so you may feel some soft tissue pain following your massage, but this should disappear in a few days. Perhaps take an Epsom Salt bath afterwards, get plenty of sleep if you can and rest up the next day.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE:

  • Helps relieve pain caused by stiffness an tightness in the Body’s Fascia (a thin layer of tissue that covers all our muscles and organs). Fibro people usually have extremely short and tense Fascia which causes widespread pain. Therapists use specific pressure and stretching techniques to help relieve some of this pain.

TRIGGER POINT THERAPY:

  • This is a popular massage that helps eliminate pain and tension that radiates from trigger Points or knots in the body. For sufferers it reduces muscle stiffness, increases motion, flexibility and circulation and eases stress, tension, anxiety and depression.

CUPPING THERAPY:

  • Glass cups are applied to the skin on various Acupuncture Points. Air is removed from these cups creating a vacuum, they are then left in place for around 10 minutes.
  • This therapy is beneficial for Fibro people as it helps to reduce pain and soften muscle and tissue.

REFLEXOLOGY:

  • Massage and pressure is applied to specific places on hands and feet that match other areas and organs throughout the body. These areas will be determined by your needs and Fibro symptoms.

Massage for those with Fibro should be painless and the intensity increased slowly with each session according to your bodies reaction and symptoms at the time.

With regular sessions and over time Massage can help you bring your pain to a manageable level.
