Restless Leg Syndrome

 

Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) is a disorder in which there are unpleasant sensation in your Legs.

Usually, you start to notice it in the evening, and it can prevent you from sleeping properly as well, this is why it is classed as a sleep disorder and the reason a lot of People with Fibromyalgia suffer with it.

Common symptoms include a throbbing, pulling, creeping, itching, burning, stinging sensation with an overwhelming urge to keep moving your Legs.

The cause of the disorder may be due to the way the Brain uses Dopamine, a Brain Chemical that helps with Muscle movement. However, there are also other factors to consider, they include:

  • Having a Chronic Illness such as Fibro
  • Iron Deficiency – low levels lead to a drop in Dopamine
  • Medication
  • Pregnancy
  • Stress
  • Sleep deprivation
  • Lack of Exercise
  • Excessive Smoking, Caffeine or Alcohol

Symptoms of RLS can differ from Person to Person ranging from mild to severe.

Uncomfortable sensation in the lower Leg but can be anywhere from Thigh to foot that makes you want to keep moving them.

Symptoms getting worse when you try to rest but seem to improve if you stretch or massage the Legs.

Symptoms get worse at Night, and you may experience repetitive, cramping, jerking, or twitching of the Legs while sleeping which results in Sleep disturbance.

There is no cure for RLS except by making Lifestyle Changes, looking at your Medication and making time for some Self-care you can possibly improve your Symptoms
