Difficulties With Swallowing

 

Dysphagia is the medical term for when you have difficulty swallowing. It often feels as if the food is stuck in your Throat or Chest.

Fibro people often suffer with this due to the Muscle weakness they experience, which can include the muscles associated with swallowing.

However, Dysphagia can also be caused by some Medications and some Mental Health Disorders such as OCD, PTSD, Panic and Anxiety Disorder and Depression.

There are 4 types of Dysphagia:

OROPHARYNGEAL DYSPHAGIA

  • This is where you have difficulty moving food from your Mouth to your Throat.

ESOPHAGEAL DYSPHAGIA

  • This is where you have difficulty moving food down your Oesophagus.

FUNCTIONAL DYSPHAGIA

  • This is where you have trouble Swallowing when there seems to be no structural or medical reason for it. This type is usually related to a Mental Disorder.

NEUROMUSCULAR SYMPTOM COMPLEX

  • This is a symptom of a progressive Neurological Disease or Neurological Damage.
