Depression

Most people with Fibro will at some time suffer with Depression.

Depression increases the risk of developing Chronic Pain and vis versa. It is a vicious Circle:

Pain worsens Depression and Depression worsens Pain

Living with Fibro causes tremendous Life Changes. Slowly things start to slip away – work, hobbies, friends and even family. You then find your stress levels start to increase.

It is normal to have low periods as you try to adjust, but Major Depression isn’t just about feeling a little blue. It is much more than that and can affect all areas of your life.

People with Fibro are at particular risk of developing Major Depression,  these Disorders share Generic and Environment Factors and are associated with changes in the Central Nervous System.

Fibromyalgia Symptoms are very similar to those of Major Depression meaning Depression is often overlooked.

Signs of Depression include:

  • Decreased Energy
  • Difficulty concentrating and making decisions
  • Loss of interest in nearly all activities
  • Persistent low or anxious mood
  • Uncontrollable tearfulness
  • Feelings of hopelessness, irritability or guilt
  • Thoughts of suicide

Some People with Fibro know they are Depressed, others may not. Depression often gets worse if it isn’t treated and can linger for weeks, months or even years.

So, if you’re feeling Depressed speak to your doctor as soon as possible. Or if your reluctant to do that talk to a friend or a loved one, sometimes “Two Minds are better than one”.
