Symptoms – Brittle Nails

Brittle Nails

One of the many issues that Fibromyalgia Sufferers may deal with is Brittle Nails. This is where your nails have cracked, chipped, peeled, or even split and is often a sign of aging, but can also be due to having them over exposed to moisture or having used nail polish for many years.

It is not completely known why those with Fibro seem to be prone to this problem with their nails, but it is thought it could be due to the fact that a lot of sufferers have:

  • Low blood flow
  • Side effects from medication
  • Lack of vitamins and nutrients in the body

There are several different treatments for this problem, these include home remedies which usually help put oils and moisture back into the damaged nail, but these may need to be used alongside Supplements as well.

SUPPLEMENTS THAT WILL HELP ARE:

Zinc

This is good for hair and nail growth and can either be taken as a supplement or by increasing your intake of lean meats, seafood and breakfast cereal that has been fortified with Zinc.

Iron

Brittle Nails can be caused by low Iron levels in the body. Iron tablets can be taken to help this, but you can also increase your intake of red meat, eggs and turkey to help too.

Vitamin C

Increasing your Vitamin C can help ensure your nails grow properly whether taken as a supplement or from eating more fruit.
